james: 20% Rule

Today I tole my boss that if he wanted our team to be more innovative he tell everyone to spend 20% of their time on projects of their own choosing. I mean hey, Google does it.

I haven’t heard his reaction yet…

james: Branding. The how and the why of it.

I think I actually understand branding now. And I was entertained in the process.

Thanks Lou

cheryl: Inspired

Candice has been the books she’s been reading lately so I thought I might contribute my favorite books of lately. I have to say that the first three books in the Kushiel’s Legacy by Jacqueline Carey are very good books. Be warned that these are of course science fiction. There are the odd moments with grammer but the story is very interesting. This is a journey type of book and lets you grow with the character. If you don’t believe me that it’s a good book ask James. He wouldn’t read the first book for the longest time and then with some prodding consumed the first and stole the second before I could get to it :) I just started the third book and it was well worth reading the first two to get to this. There is plotting, romance, and some reference to our own history.

cheryl: Fall Planning

I am aready working on our fall plans. The planning actually started in January  of this year when I was fed up with classes and needed a break despite or because the  Christmas holidays. I started looking for a cruise we could go on and ended up with one that leaves the last week of October. Though Orbitz I was able to pay half in January and the other half when the cruise leaves. It is only five days but was a great price. Other events include the usual trip at Thanksgiving to James mom’s for the day and my cousin Jolene’s wedding December 17. Congrats! That will be a really busy event with the already busy holiday season. Luckily James and I won’t be in the wedding so will be free to help with all the mania of setting up and tearing down and keeping the bride from bolting last minute. j/k. The current duties include helping Saturday night with all the floral arrangements and some undetermined job during the wedding. In between all of these things will include my three classes and James two or four, I’m not sure, and the "busy" time at work. Something else exciting has just come up since starting this post. My brother, who is turning into a really nice guy, is making an appointment at a massage and hair place for my mother’s birthday and asked if I would like to go with her. It’s three sessions and all 90% off!

cheryl: Peaches and Blue Berries

My department does a very nice birthday for each member on or near their birthday. Since it was my turn to prepare a birthday for a co-worker I decided to have some fun with it. Usually there are plants or a balloon bouquet that is given and whatever else is given by the co-workers. I didn’t like that idea especially well so I decided to buy a nice candle with one of those lamp tops which looks very nice and will last a while. Also, I learned that the favorite dessert was peaches and ice cream that wasn’t too difficult to make. The peaches took about 30 minutes to peal and slice which isn’t too bad. Then I put them in a bowl with blue berries and powdered sugar. I wish I had a camera! To top it off I bought vanilla ice cream, pound cake and maroon cookies to go with it.
I have to say that the final product was delicious and very colorful. I’m only hoping that the peaches hold out for everyone and that the ice cream doesn’t melt.
